What makes a good website? Asking questions about what is important.

A couple of weeks ago, we listed criteria we thought were important to look for in a website. This is the list we came up with. Now we are going to use this list to critique some information we viewed to check if our list is robust.

  1. I think the information we collected is correct .Here is some more criteria I have thought of.A website like BBC 1. has correct information because it has been written by experts 2.Its latest news put on to their website and may have been on tv?

    1. BBC is a good website but the flying brids looked so real that anyone would have believed it.So maybe we should be thinking about that.

  2. I think a way of telling if information is true is see who wrote the information, like if it were to be something like " How to fix a broken leg " you would want to see St Johns Hospital than the comedy boys. Also see when the information was written. It could be a illness and it could say there was no cure but that could have been in the 1800 but in 2013 a cure was found but you looked on the wrong website for the information.

  3. I watched the BBC documentary at home with my mum, even though we know penguins can't fly we were confused because it looked so believable and BBC can usually be trusted to tell facts.

  4. I think that we have covered pretty much all criteria, but after watching the video I learnt that even if it is written/ made by an expert you should use your common sense as they might have made a mistake!!! To be honest I fell for it to.

  5. That is a lot of info. I can't think of anything else that would make it longer. The BBC joke was so believeable, but you weren't supposed to.

  8. I think the three criteria I would look for in a good website would be:
That is is written by a professional
That the website is regulary updated
That it is easy to read and understand
Oh! We need to use our common sense too!

  9. I think we should look for ways to prove or disprove what the website is telling us. Don't just accept everything as true, look for evidence.

  10. monday my teacher showed us a video made by the bbc knowlage about penguins, so I thought this was just going an normal animal documentory. Then when I saw it I was blown away because they said that they found flying peguins and that in the winter they would fly to the tropics. just then I thought to myself that the penguins are used to the cold and I started work out that it was an april fools joke!

  11. The BBC flying penguins clip was very believable with the awesome animations and the facts that the BBC are very trustworthy. But right after the clip there was a lot of questions like; what type of penguins are these, what would they eat in the tropics and lots more. The clip was a great joke it was so believable.

  12. The BBC clip that we watched was very believable because the BBC is a trusted site for information, and it was told like a real documentary.
One thing to add to the criteria is you should be able to comment on the article to have your say.
The criteria we have gathered is correct apart for the one thing I pointed out above.^
If you are looking for a reliable site, you need to think about :
    is it written by experts?
    is it updated regluarly?
is the web site tamper proof?
use your common sense, and if it doesn't feel right, change the web site.

  13. The video about flying penguins on BBC was so believable. It seemed so real the way the penguins hopped before taking of into the tropical islands. The video was explained so well everyone would have believed it. After the video there were loads of questions like can penguins really fly? Turns out penguins can't really fly after all. This was a great April fools day joke. I loved this video.

  14. I think that a site that people think is great does not always have the right information. Like the penguins it's a great site but it wasn't true.you still do have to question sites because there not always true.

  15. I do trust the BBC. But flying penguins, seriously! The recommended videos had one that said ' Making of the Penguins'. The site is reliable but they took the fools in April fools too seriously. But, at the end of the video it was funny of the penguin falling. You have to look out for things like that in other sites.

  16. I knew that penguins couldn't fly but this documentary made it look so real. I would think if something is written by people who we think are experts it would be true-but it just goes to show we need to use our common sense.
things we should look for :
    Is the website updated regulary
    use common sense
can the site be changed by anyone
